Brands: Cancelling a reimbursement job after the creator bought the product

What happens to your refund when you cancel a reimbursement job at this stage, and what to try before cancelling.

Written by Anastasija

On Reimbursement jobs, the creator buys your product from the marketplace, and JoinBrands pays them back from your campaign once the job is completed. If you cancel a job after the creator has already bought the product, the job doesn't simply close and refund. Here's what happens.

🔄 What happens when you cancel

A job counts as being at this stage once the creator has bought the product and entered the order ID. If you cancel the job then:

  1. The creator's earnings for the job are refunded to you automatically.

  2. The product reimbursement is put on hold. The creator has already paid for the product, so this amount isn't refunded straight away.

  3. The job goes into review (mediation). Our Brand & Creator Assistance Team reviews the case, decides how the reimbursement amount is settled, and lets you know the outcome.

📓 Note: Until the review is complete, the reimbursement amount stays on hold.

💡 Before you cancel

  • Talk to the creator first. Use the job chat to check what's causing the delay. Often a short extension is enough to get the content you paid for.

  • Remember the creator has spent their own money. A reimbursement is only paid when the job is completed. Cancelling at this stage can leave the creator out of pocket for a purchase they made for your campaign.

  • Expect a review, not an instant refund. Your earnings for the job come back automatically, but the reimbursement amount goes through mediation first.

⏱️ When can I cancel?

On regular campaigns, you can cancel a job once it reaches Late status. For the full timeline, see Brands: A Guide to Job Status and Timers and our Refund Policy.
